Project Description:
Desert Grove Pools & Spas successfully delivered a full turnkey semi-Olympic overflow swimming pool project for Dubai College in Jumeirah Dubai, one of the UAE’s leading educational institutions. The project gained industry recognition and was featured in Construction Week for its innovative swimming pool construction methodology, including the implementation of a monoblock concrete pool shell system — a first-of-its-kind execution within Dubai’s educational sector.
As the turnkey swimming pool contractor, Desert Grove Pools & Spas managed all phases of the project including engineering design, structural execution, waterproofing systems, pool finishing works, MEP installation, deck drainage systems, balance tank construction, testing, commissioning and post-handover operational support.
The swimming pool structure was engineered using an advanced monoblock concrete system, creating a seamless joint-free pool shell designed to maximize long-term structural integrity, reduce leakage risk and minimize maintenance requirements. This innovative construction method also enabled accelerated project delivery while maintaining exceptional durability and design flexibility.
Built to semi-Olympic standards and compliant with FINA specifications, the swimming pool features a 25-meter competition-length layout with six professional swimming lanes designed for institutional training, physical education and competitive aquatic activities.
The project incorporates a high-performance regenerative media filtration system engineered to deliver exceptional water clarity while significantly reducing water consumption and energy usage compared to traditional sand filtration technologies.
To optimize operational efficiency and water quality management, the facility integrates a fully automated chemical dosing and smart control system with automated filtration and backwash cycle management, ensuring reliable 24/7 swimming pool operation.
The project also emphasizes sustainability through the use of energy-efficient circulation pumps, insulated piping systems and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), helping reduce operational energy demand and long-term environmental impact.
Additional safety and operational features include anti-slip pool decking, stainless steel ladders and handrails, lifeguard platforms and infrastructure provisions for future accessibility system integration.
Executing the project within an active academic campus environment required highly coordinated phased construction planning, strict safety procedures and close collaboration with Dubai Municipality, DEWA and other regulatory authorities to ensure uninterrupted school operations and full compliance throughout the construction process.
The completed aquatic facility was delivered on schedule with full operational readiness and now serves as a premier institutional swimming pool supporting Dubai College’s physical education curriculum, competitive sports programs and long-term athletic development initiatives.
